                Wallingford Farm - Kennebunk, Maine

                Picture

The hall and barns at Wallingford were constructed 1804 by Thomas Eaton for George and Abigail Wallingford. George Wallingford graduated from Harvard in 1795 at only seventeen years old and opened his practice in 1800. George was an active politician, in 1813 he was elected as one of the representatives of Wells, Maine to the General Court of Massachusetts and served until 1820 when Maine was granted statehood. In 1817 he chaired the committee that welcomed President James Monroe to Kennebunk and in 1819 he was a member of the Convention at Portland for the drafting of the state constitution. George Wallingford was a founding father of the town of Kennebunk and served as paymaster to Maine soldiers headed to the War of 1812. In 1820 was elected the first moderator for the town. While serving on the committee for Maine statehood he was instrumental in Maine becoming a state.

George's  father Samuel is credited with being the first United States Marine and fought in the Revolutionary War as Lieutenant of Marines under John Paul Jones.

On April 28th, 2004, on Wallingford Hall's 200th anniversary, The United States Congress placed the buildings and farm on the National Registry of Historic Places. The historic restoration of the property is now in progress.

The claims of paranormal activity at Wallingford Farm include doors slamming, apparitions of soldiers walking on the beams in the barn, cold spots, sounds of people running up and down stairs and a shadow figure spotted in the foyer and hallway.

The most interesting piece of evidence from our investigation was recorded by an RCA VR5220-A  left with a static DVR camera in the area between the house and the barn. This recorder picked up what sounds like footsteps and lasts for almost four minutes. At the time of the recording the static camera did not record any cause for this sound and we were in another part of the building which is documented on another voice recorder. Our other RCA VR5220-A was placed in the hallway with a static DVR camera. This recorder captured what sounds like a female voice. While we were in the downstairs hallway we heard a loud bang come from an upstairs bedroom, when we went to investigate we were unable to find a cause for this sound.

Our investigation of Wallingford Farm provided us with some interesting evidence and we look forward to returning for future investigations. Wallingford Farm is a great piece of Maine's history and we highly recommend a visit. Click here to visit the Wallingford Farm website.
